Shattered Image
“The Ripple of an Ink Splatter” | 2023
8.5 x 11 inches, Ink Marker and Pencil on Paper
I chose to have a fountain pen spilling out ink as the subject of my shattered image. The fountain pen comes out at an angle from the bottom right corner of the page. The pen tip lays a little above and left from the center of the page with a pool of ink surrounding it and splatters on each side. I chose a fountain pen because I wanted to have a subject that would have an interesting end so it could be the center of a spiral that shatters the image. The drawing is sectioned off with the outlines of the fountain pen and ink, and the spiral lines. Each shape is closed off by sections. Each section is shaded in order from top to bottom, then bottom to top, except for the ink splatters which are shaded from center to outline, then outline to center. This created a contrast in value that emphasizes how the image is shattered and leaves no negative space in the image.
